Crafty- My Awesome Sign

Anyone watch "How I Met Your Mother"? I love Barney. He may be my favorite character. I saw this sign originally on Pinterest and I knew I could make it myself. So, I had Natalie use her handy dandy Cricut and cut me some letters. I then, figured out the size canvas I needed and headed to the Hobby Lobby. I laid out all the letters on the canvas to make sure they would fit, and then used a ruler to make sure the words were straight.

After I got all the letters on there, I mixed my paint color and just painted over the entire canvas. Once it was done and had dried, I took all the letters off. I did do a little touch up white paint.

And then I hung it on my wall. :) I love it! It's in the perfect spot to cheer you up when you aren't feeling so awesome.

Girls Rooms- Decorated.. FINALLY!

I thought it was about time I showed y'all the girls rooms as a finished product.

I made the headboards and did a tutorial on that HERE.

The got the bedding from Bed, Bath, and Beyond- I ordered in online. My sister made the crown ribbon things. The plan is to hang pictures or artwork from them, but I am waiting to see if they won't mess with them.

The curtains are original from Addy's nursery- Pottery Barn Kids.
The pictures, I, of course, took and the frames were black frames I had and I just spray painted them pink.
I made the hairbow holders.
My sister made the letters for the girls.
She also cut the vinyl letters that go above the window and it says, "May You Grow In The Eyes Of The Lord." That was hand painted above the window in Addison's nursery, but we went with vinyl this time so it was easily removed.

The room get's terrible lighting.. and they take horrible naps and wake up entirely too early, since the room gets SO MUCH SUN.

These are pictures of the girls that are framed above each of their beds.

At least Addison's bedtime drama has eased some, not completely, but I think it's s-l-o-w-l-y getting better.

Living Room Touch Up

I wouldn't call what I did to the Living Room a make over... no painting, just making some pillows, getting toys out of there and making it a more grown up room. This is the only before picture I could find and it's not really even of our living room..

BEFORE:

AFTER:

I made these pillows.. they were surprisingly easy. And look at Claire in the background eating lunch..

John's man chair that came yesterday..

The ottoman that I made.. sort of.

These pictures are kind of bad.. I was in a hurry and it's pretty nasty outside so the lighting wasn't ideal and I have been so excited to share what I have done that I didn't want to wait until next week anyway. Hope you enjoyed my living room touch up!

DIY Headboards

I have been getting a lot of a requests for a DIY Headboard tutorial. Since, this was my first time doing something like this, I have tips and tricks that I can pass on to you!

I started with plywood, cut to the dimensions that I needed for the two twin bed. I think my height was 48? I can't remember.
I then used some spray glue... I don't recommend this brand. I don't think it does a great job with the plywood and foam.

I spray glued my foam.. which I cut myself. Apparently, the Hancock Fabrics around here don't cut foam for you, but I have heard of others cutting it for you, so just ask. I had a hard time getting it straight, and I think that was my big problem in the end.

I stapled quilt batting around the whole thing.

Gotta love the toys and clutter around...

I laid my fabric out and then stapled it the same way I did the batting... I think I pulled it too tight. That combined with the lumps from cutting the foam myself made the sides look a little wonky. Once I got it up, it's really hard to tell that it's messed up.

See what I mean about it being lumpy?? The girls don't care though.

Once I get the whole room done, I will show you what it looks like, but consider this a sneak peek!

Crafty Mama-- Christmas Pillows

Every once in a while, I will get a crafty surge and I have to succumb to it. Yesterday's was Christmas pillows. SaSa came over and I was setting up Christmas decorations and telling her how I thought I might make some Christmas pillows to match the tree skirt and she spotted my table runner and matching cloth napkins I had yet to put in their home. She told me to make that into a pillow.. I had two- I could make a pillow! I told her that if I used a different fabric for the back that I could make two! I also had the perfect cream to match the stripe. When I went to my fabric tote, I found a bunch of fabric that I could use in my pillow making. I decided to try to do and put together what I could so I could wait on going to Hobby Lobby just in case there was something else I ran across needing.

FINISHED PRODUCT!

Excuse the Christmas tree box in the floor...

This was the cloth napkin!

back of it.

This is my tree skirt. I wanted the pillows to match.

Voila!
I made the back out of some red corduroy that I used for Addison's Christmas pants last year.. I obviously bought entirely too much! The light green was left over from the iPhone pillows I made a few months ago. The dark green was felt. The red dots were felt. It would have been easier to use felt for all
the stripes but I had that fabric, so I used it.

This was an after thought pillow.. I had left over red fabric and I thought I would make one to match the stockings.

These are our stockings..

This one was REALLY an after thought. I had left over poly fill, so I decided to use scraps of fabric to make another pillow.

Want to know what these SIX pillows cost me? $20!!! Since I had the red felt, and all the fabric all I needed was green thread, dark green felt, and poly fill. Which I did poly fill instead of pillow inserts since it was cheaper and actually easier to work with.
I'd say that's a Christmas deal!

Craftiness...

Today was like Crafty Friday. The crafty bug hit me and I was in Hobby Lobby two times in less than 24 hours. It started with this canvas that I made:

I think I am going to make one that says "LIve" and "Laugh"and then hang them in my bedroom..

Several months ago, I saw a tutorial on someone's blog on how to make this pillow.. I couldn't find it, so I had to wing it. I think it turned out nicely.

Last, but not least, I am SUPER proud of these nerdy pillows. They turned out pretty fabulous and of course, play tribute to the iPhone. We are Mac geeks here!! Our couch was in desperate need of some pillows, so I just whipped them up. They were surprising easy. I made all three today. As well as the canvas.

Happy Friday, Y'all!

Nervous Energy...

NERVOUS.

Seriously. NERVOUS.
We leave for Disney on Friday. I know, I haven't talked a LOT about this trip, because I am honestly scared. It's my half marathon. IN 4 DAYS!!! I feel ready, but not. I am scared for how my body is going to react. Am I going to be able to finish? I KNOW it's okay to walk, but I REALLY want to be able to keep those feetsies movin' to light jog, if I need to slow down. I ended up getting sick late last week and didn't get in my 10 mile run and had to get a steroid shot to help get over my cold. So.. I am not 100%, but am getting there. My ears a still a little stopped up. My shins are bothering me a little bit, but lots of stretching and ice seem to help a LOT. How is my body going to react if I hit a wall? Should I carry a towel of some sort for sweat? Do I even want to mess with the Nike + system because the arm band makes my arm sweat and I hate that. Am I going to be too cold in a t-shirt and shorts? Should I try to get a running jacket or a long sleeve shirt? Am I even going to feel like being at Disney afterwards? Am I a crazy person? See.. lots of questions!! What do I need to do post race for myself?

So, since I have a TON of nervous energy, it means stuff around here is getting done. The stuff that no one else cares about. Like bow holders and hanging stuff up. Like, I want to repaint the hall to our bedroom.

So, I finally made the girls bow holders last night...

This is Claire's...

I started with a blank canvas, since I always have those lying around, you could probably do some MDF board though.
I hot glued the edges around the back side of the canvas, but I would have rather done a staple gun, but was out of staples.

Folded the corners down and glued those.
Then I took coordinating ribbon and measured them out about 3 inches apart and hot glued those as well.

While I was at it, I hung up a bunch of stuff that I have had since before Claire was born. My friend Mal made the canvas for Claire.. How cute is that?? The picture frame and cross are from my sister. I know she will be happy to finally see something on Claire's walls. P.S. I need a picture for the frame..

I also hung the coat rack that was from my sister in C's closet.. oh look. The Duckie bag that was for Addison.. also from my sister. Do we think she loves my girls? I believe that answer is YES.
This is Addison's bow holder.. she picked out the fabric herself... and she needs some stuff on the sides of it. Not sure what though...

Anyway... if any runner's out there are reading and have some calming advice or answers to my questions, then feel free to leave it!

First Project of the 2010...

As you may know by now, we are headed to Cali on Tuesday for the National Title game against Texas. I needed an outfit with style. I had seen a SUPER cute jersey at the SEC Championship that have BLING all inside the numbers. I was smitten. I said right then and there, that will be in January. So, here is the plain jersey. Not near as cute as it turns out! I really wanted #13 because if we win, it will be Alabama's 13th National Championship. But, no go. So I settled for our first Heisman winner, Mark Ingram, #22.

Here is the nice Hot Tool that I had to purchase to do this...

It took 2 hours to place and secure the jewels on there, and I couldn't let my hard work go to waste, so I wore it to lunch.. and some of them fell off!!

This is me, working hard... which, this is also the first picture of my Project 365 I am doing!
