Say Whaatt?!

I've been throwing around starting a "say whhaatt?" segment here on the 'ol bloggity blog strictly based on things that the girls say. Addy has some hilarious things come out of her mouth and I really want to document it. I have been known to say some stupid things in my life and so I will post those here so you can all point and laugh at me too and not just John. So, if you hate "Kids say the darndest things.." then, you probably won't like this post.

Last week, I told Addy that I had a headache- hoping to get some sympathy out of her. She turned, looked at me and asked, "Why does your head hurt? Did you do something to it? Or is it just the voices in your head?"

Yesterday she was wanting to play on the ipad and I told her no and then she proceeds to throw a fit and say, "But my ipad(her leapfrog) doesn't have any angry birds on it!"

There is a picture of my dad and I out the day I got married and she asked, "Is this the day when you married Boom Pa?"

The amount of questions Addison asks will make your eyes cross.. seriously. It goes something like this.

A: "Were you at the beach in this picture?"
Me: "No. I think that was a party for when we got married."
A: " When you got married?"
Me: "Yep."
A: "Why did you have a party?"
Me: "Because thats what people do to celebrate."
A: "Where was I?"
Me: "You weren't here yet."
A: "Was I in your belly?"
Me: "No. I wasn't pregnant yet."
A: "Well, where was I?"
Me: "Uhh..."
A: "Tell ME!!"
Me: "Well.. you weren't in my belly yet, because I wasn't married. You have to be married to have a baby." And then I ran away and asked God for forgiveness for telling my 4 year old a lie.

And for my stupid comment of the week- I don't know why I have been quietly laughing about this lately, because I said it months ago!
When the first pictures surfaced of Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern, John and I were talking about it. And then, the first trailer came out. And I just *knew* something was missing. So, I thought about it. I asked John, "Hey! Where is his bow and arrow?" John replied with, "What bow and arrow?" I was getting all exasperated, "You KNOW! His bow and arrow!!" John looked at me. "That's the Green Arrow."
Ohhh... Whoops. Can't keep all those Super Heroes straight.

Don't you take all your dates to the Zoo?

A couple of a weeks ago, Becca, the girls and I met GiGi at the zoo.. All I have to say, is thank God for Addy and her sense of direction, because we would probably still be wandering around looking for the zoo entrance.

We started with the Sea Lion exhibit... I'm telling you, the zoo has come a long way since I used to go in Kindergarten.

We checked out the Alligators...

We tried to check on the Kangaroos... but no go. Look at these little friends. So cute!!

We spied on the Gorilla's while they napped.

We ( and when I say We, I mean Claire) had a couple of meltdowns, so we took a bathroom break and then a spin on the play ground area.
"I think this is how you play these drums, Addy."

"No, Taylor, it's like THIS!"

"No, I'm pretty sure it's like this."

"It DOES make more sound that way."

"Let's make this log a balance beam!"

Concentrate... on Domination.
"Hey, where are you going? Come back so you can watch me dominate my landing."

Wheee!!!

Robbie met us for lunch and we saw turtles, and running dogs, and what appeared to be house cats hanging out while their owners were at work.
We saw some inappropriateness from giraffes, and some zebras.
We also rode the carousel, which Claire doesn't dig. But Addy pronounced it, "The best one ever!" and gave her "running dog" a kiss.

Thanks for a wonderful time, GiGi!!!

My step-dad's niece got married this weekend.. ( my step cousin?) and I took to a Twitter poll for the dress. Ultimately, it was pretty split half and half but I let my mom make the final decision.

Earrings: those white ones everyone loves from Claire's

She said no. I asked what Kimbo-her mom- would say- she replied with she would say "Jesus loves rhinestones!!"- hence the name of the shoes. Sorry. Tangent.)

Me and my Mama at the reception

I think everyone has already seen my race outfit from Saturday but here it is again.

Cullman Rising 5K

It was a hot one. That's for sure. Robbie ran with me, and I didn't want to jinx it, but we were on pace to break a 30min 5K Mile 1 was 9:28; slowed it down a bit for mile 2 10:28; and mile 3 sort of fell apart at 12:07.

I ran the course Thursday with Stacie, Nicole and Jennifer and I knew the hills were in the beginning, so when we were keeping that pace with the hills, I was feeling good. But it was unshaded and hot and humid, so I won't complain too much.

The course weaved through where the tornado went through. A lot of stuff is starting to be demo-ed, so it's strange to see broken trees and dirt where houses used to stand.

I will take my 33:55 time and run with it- and the day I break 30.. I will fist pump and dance across the finish line. :)

Addy says she wants to run the next one with me.. how do you train a 4 year old? Maybe we should just do the 1 mile fun "walk" or should we man up and do the 5K? It's July 23rd.

Closet Mini Makeover

So, I have a problem with re-doing rooms in the house that probably don't need it.

The closet was one of those things. It was not functional anymore and I was getting tired of stepping over the piles of STUFF in the floor. John also had this great shelving that really should be used for shoes and he didn't use it for that. So, I wanted to downsize the amount of stuff in there and switch sides.

Plus, I couldn't STAND looking at this every day.

Before

Now, what should have been a FUN and easy project.. I wanted to re-paint the walls and do a houndstooth stencil on the main wall. So, I took everything OUT of the closet and took off the shelving. Try finding a place to put all that!
I got the holes patched in the wall and painted. I started on Thursday afternoon and got that all finished by Friday night. I was waiting the stencil to come in. So, late Friday night, I start with the stencil... and it's bleeding everywhere. So, I take it down and decide I will need to re-paint over that to start over. Saturday morning, I started again and I realized that the stencil just wasn't going to look the way I wanted it to, so I made a modification to just do white stripes. I measured and taped everything off in about 45 minutes. I didn't take the bottom part of the wall, because it was still drying where I painted over the white stencil. I paint my stripes and am finally feeling good about this project- it's going to look good, maybe not like I wanted, but I should be finished in time for dinner! Yay!

So, I waited to pull the tape until the paint was almost dry..As I am pulling the tape off, HUGE CHUNKS of paint are coming off.. all the way down to the sheetrock. I thought I was going to cry. It looked worse than before. So, after throwing a mini-fit about it, and people telling me to just leave it, I decided I couldn't just leave it, so I HAND PAINTED the last two stripes and then patched the holes and re painted the spots that were messed up.
Then it was time to put everything back.
My new side

Philly's new side

John's shoe rack that I got from Target for $9.99!! And I put it together myself!

I decided to put my seasonal footwear on the bottom shelf

My new earring holder that I made

bags

So, what do you think? Probably not worth the headache, but I am happy with the results. The closet is less cluttered and we using our space much better!

Runners Brain or Fashion Brain?

Guys, I am having a dilemma. While, my Karhu's have helped me knee problem, they are extremely heavy and I feel like I need a secondary running shoe. What I want, is to be faster. And to not have knee pain. I have been lusting over the Nike Free's for a while. They are light weight but I have heard bad things about distance running in them.

I did a bad thing. I tried them on. They felt fantastic. I talked with the guy at Hibbett's- where I normally wouldn't buy running shoes, but I was browsing and he seemed extremely knowledgable. He flat out told me that with my heel strike, these shoes would be my worst nightmare, but he also told me about the Free technology that simulates barefoot running therefore it strengthens the ankle muscle and blah blah blah. He got me thinking though, he said that "natural" runners( those who hit more on the balls of their feet) have the shock of the strike in their muscles and not in their joints and cartilage like a heel striker does.

I am afraid I am doing THE ONE thing that a runner isn't supposed to do and am choosing a shoe based on looks. He put a special insert in the shoe and I tried it on with my normal running sock and it felt fantastic.

I am looking for this shoe as a secondary running shoe, not a primary. Something to start out with 1-2 mile runs to help improve my speed and hopefully my running "style"- is that the right word?

Anyway, so last night I went to run a mile- to help my speed and tried to stay conscious of how my foot was hitting and stayed more on the mid-foot area, and I could feel it working my calves more and different muscles in my feet. I felt much better and didn't get as tired as I normally would and ended up running almost 3 miles.

I am also still having a breathing problem... I am not sure if I just suck wind and therefore my mouth and throat get dry and so I stop to drink some water, but I am getting side stitches. How can I fix this? I think it might be becoming a mental block too.

So, my questions are.. Am I letting my fashion brain overtake my smart runners brain on a shoe purchase? I have enjoyed the Karhu's but would rather get back into my Vomero's and maybe a pair of Free's for shorter distances. What do you think?? Opinions, people!!

And what can I do to help my breathing techniques?

Products I am lovin'

Ever get some new products and you just fall in love?

My Chi flat iron died last week and I had to replace it. I wasn't sure what to get so I looked online and then went to Sephora and ended up with the T3. I already had a T3 hair dryer and I loved it. And if I am letting all my crazy out, I like for things to match and this matched my hair dryer. It's a single pass flat iron and has a temperature control. Also, there is no way for the on/off button to break off.

One thing I love, is that it doesn't leave creases in my hair like my Chi did. And I don't have to clamp down super hard either.

All in all, I think it's money well spent.. you just have to decide for yourself if you are willing to pay the price, because this thing is NOT cheap. It's $160. But, my Chi lasted me 4 years. So I think it's a good investment.

After staying with mom for a week and getting to use her expensive face wash and moisturizer, I decided my Wal-mart brand wasn't cutting it anymore. I went into Ulta and looked around, talked to sales person and decided to try this Philosophy brand. I've heard great things, and it wasn't TOO pricey. I loved my Nars cleaner and moisturizer, but I couldn't handle to price tag that went with it.

It was $30 for this kit and I got the face wash, moisturizer, and a Retinol night cream. At first, I wasn't sure what to think about the face wash- it does an awesome job removing make up, but it's not as thick or foamy as I like a face wash. But the more I use it, the more I love it. It makes me want to wash my face at night. I am using Help Me at night, and although, I haven't seen a MAJOR difference in wrinkles, my face feels better than it has in a while.

The Hope in a Jar is the moisturizer.. and MAN OH MAN. You've got to get some of this stuff! It's fantastic! It's so creamy and buttery without feeling heavy on your skin at all. If that's not enough for you, Oprah swears by it. I have been getting this super dry patches of skin around my nose, and since using this, I haven't been. My face never feels dry and I think my makeup has been going on smoother.

I definitely want to try the around the eye treatment that Philosophy has because I am pretty much in love with this brand now.

Vegas... Part 3.. The Finale

In case you weren't tired of me talking about Vegas, I have this post. Bear with me, it's kind of another hodge podge.

When we got there Monday, we ate dinner at the hotel in the Cafe Bellagio.. Yummy!
My Chicken, avocado, tomato wrap

Tracie's bacon burger that she warmed her hands on her plate.
Tuesday we ate at Serendipity.. hello yummy dessert.

Friday, we did a girls day shopping trip... where Linda made her FIRST Louis Vuitton purchase in the form of a make-up bag.

And we went to the BIGGEST Forever 21 in the world. And tortured Linda while we shopping around for 2 hours. Whoops. It was seriously massive. Two stories.. approximately the size of a Macy's.

Saturday morning.. the day we leave. Super tired and sad.

More sleep please!

Ha! I got John mid yawn...

Jo-Jo's $1000 chip. That's right. Guess all that statue feet rubbin' came in handy!

John borrowed his, but you get the idea.. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.

Banana's Foster Waffles. Yes. They were as good as they sounded... I had them 3 different times.
I'm so glad you came into my life...
Linda went to see Barry Manilow... with her Barry shaped record.
We went to Minus 5 Wednesday night... it was really cold. Too bad they don't let you take cameras in there. You get to wear coats and ugg boots. And sit on ice furniture and drink out of an ice glass.

Wednesday, we went to eat at the Pink Taco in Hard Rock... yep. You can imagine the jokes.
It was oh, so, delicious. Seriously.

This is what happens when I drink margaritas.. not really. Something else much worse happens.

Yummy... too bad I can't remember the name of this 5 star restaurant in MGM...

Friday night, we ate at the Top of the World and went to Cirque Du Soilel "O" show.. So flipping fantastic. The Olympics has NOTHING on that show. Sorry for the messed up pics...

They have roller coasters and the Sky Jump at the Top of the World.. I laughed at this sign. The dining room rotates so you can see the entire city of Vegas. Pretty awesome, even if the decor is a little 80's.

Yup. I got my first In and Out Burger.. it was heaven.
